Teas From the Multiverse: Ascension Blend
A couple days late, finals and all - but after some deliberation, the second tea expansion! Sorin’s blend features a complex but indulgent mix of dark and bright flavors led by the timeless and classic Earl Grey.

Oh well, I would love to do either of these this year for MCM but I probably won’t be able to because of the cost of materials. I’d like to cosplay either Ral Zarek or Jace Beleren from Magic: The Gathering. They’re my favourite two Planeswalkers from the series but they’d be expensive costumes to make.
Ral costume wise wouldn’t be so hard but the gauntlets and the generators would probably be really difficult to build. I’m sure it wouldn’t be hard to get an LED or something on the one strapped to his waist but the chest piece would be.
Jace originally looked easier to me but the more I look at his armor, the more I reconsider. It probably would require a lot of pads for the shoulders and arms but the legs look the worst to make. I’m also unclear about how to do the silver and red buckles on his belt and shirt.
Ffff cosplayer’s problems, right?
Did a Jace cosplay, working on a Ral cosplay this summer.
Ral’s equipment is surprisingly easy to construct and would be pretty lightweight if you construct it hollow. For that stuff, you would maybe need

If Ral/Zeico isn’t one of your tumblr MtG fandom/RP OTPs, then you’re doing it wrong.
I haven’t seen the tweet myself/couldn’t find it, but if my suspicions are correct then the bio card being referred to here is one of the guest feature Planeswalker cards from Square Enix’s Japanese exclusive Lord of Vermilion 2 arcade-based CCG ( a beautiful set of which I am the proud owner of thanks to allwillbeone :D ).
So yeah, just to confirm - Garruk is listed at being 1.8m tall in his bio on the back, which is about 5’ 9” - 5’ 10” ish. By contrast, Jace and Sarkhan are listed at 2m tall - about 6 feet tall. Posted all of the ones I have so you guys can (hopefully) read them and check them out - they’re actually pretty cool~
Just consider for a second the mental image of Jace actually being taller than Garruk. Just sayin’. :)
Was going through my drawings/WIPS folder to look at old art/nostalgiabomb myself and ran across the original Jace and Chandra label art drafts for the Magic: Teas From the Multiverse Adagio tea blends. Being my two favorite ‘Walkers among the Lorwyn Five and 2012 Five, they were the first to get teas/labels/tested and as a result took some time to perfect.
So, just thought a comparison post to kind of show to evolution to the simplified style I ended up choosing would be cool. Those of you who’ve known my stuff a while know that when it comes to any committed/long term project, I rarely do anything simplified or stylized in this sort of way - that’s usually reserved for quickies, drawn replies, and cute stuff.
The original idea was to somewhat incorporate the painterly look of official MtG art while mostly sticking with the way I usually paint faces when I take it semi-seriously - kind of fancy and semirealistic. I realized a bit into drawing Liliana later that, although I still like the originals, 1) the initial style choice was inefficent, 2) it wouldn’t look as nice on Adagio’s semitransparent printed labels, and 3) it felt too moody for what were supposed to be fun, cute little novelty teas.
I still ended up doing lineless/painted portraits in the end of course because I’m a lazy fuck who doesn’t like going through the extra step of lining THEN coloring AW YEEE LET’S JUST MAKE COLORFUL BLOBS ON TOP OF BLOBS AND CLEAN IT UP, but with my roommate’s advice the simplification of process made making the final labels faster and more pleasurable to draw.
The moral of the story: Sometimes, simpler is just better, and fun can be more fabulous and cool than fanciness/trying to look cool.

Teas From the Multiverse: Cloudburst Blend
Since I won’t have time to do this over the next couple of days to release the first “expansion” blend because of nigh-finals projects and Prerelease weekend, I’m posting it up early - just in time for Dragon’s Maze! Ral’s blend boasts a spicy-citrusy flavor with a bit of a caffeine kick from the mate - electrifying!
Other than that and finals madness, you guys can also expect to see a new blend added to the collection every one or two weeks. Be sure to check it out, and if you buy it, let me know how I can improve this and/or the other blends~

A small-ish art-style-refsheet/concept sheet for the new Ask Domri Rade blog.
When reading Domri’s backstory/looking at his artwork, I somewhat came to realize that Domri reminded me a lot of Hiccup from How to Train Your Dragon, just less timid and more brash - as a Gruul character should be.
Along with the usual thing in literature and media with teenagers trying to find acceptance/a place to belong, there’s also the fact that both have talents and strengths that aren’t really recognized or valued by their peers/families until later in a time of dire need; both struggle with being physically weak and feeling unable to live up to the standards placed on them by their community - and then use aforementioned character strengths to their advantage to really shine when everything else is dim; both have quite the charm with the beasts; and, of course, GIANT FLUFFY FUR BOOTS.
YOU CAN’T NOT ACKNOWLEDGE THE WIRY LEGS IN GIANT FLUFFY FUR BOOTS.
Hence, I ended up choosing a HTTYD-esque spin on Domri’s design for the askblog art - which I’ve been meaning to try out for a long time, just didn’t find a really fun/fitting opportunity for it until now. That said, please follow, ask things, and I hope you all enjoy my iteration of Domri!

Just in time for Ral’s Dragon’s Maze Spoiler! Had a lot of fun with this thing - this was basically (one of) my non-academic Spring Break projects. I think I might get this printed myself, hueheuehueh. I like this a million times better than my old Jace design, even though I love Jace more.

IMPORTANT EDIT: so, I didn’t have the right dimensions/image ratio for this thing. Went and fixed that and the deviantart download, should give you something with huge dimensions but hopefully a low enough filesize for online printing services - or shrinking down depending on what service one is using.
Q:22. What is your number one otp?
It always fluctuates, but right now it’s probably Jace/Emmara - I think it’s really cute that Emmara is/should be the voice of reason between the two of them, the “Jace you’re being dumb stop that shit” voice that he apparently doesn’t have himself (though he was right to be suspicious in The Secretist Part 2 when Emmara tells him that he’s making an ass of himself, that wouldn’t be the first time Emmara’s tried to tell him to not do something stupid that he did anyway).
At the same time, I don’t think canonically that anything beyond close friendship is going to happen between the two, because Emmara is far older/more mature than Jace; not to mention that the guy straight-up just doesn’t know what he’s doing half the time, even though he’s got his heart in the right place, and that we have the whole Planeswalker/non-Planeswalker thing and trust issues to deal with. If Emmara survives and this does turn out the way I think it will, although it will make me sad inside for Jace, it would probably be the right thing to do on Doug Beyer’s part. If something were to happen between the two, I think Jace would need to develop a lot more as a character beforehand.
The Liliana/Jace pair has kind of a similar problem - older, more mature women probably having to baby a needy and admittedly reckless guy - and as much as both Lili and Emmara care about Jace, I don’t see a stable romance happening. Sadly, it’s the same reason why I thought Lili/Jace was cute, too - Lili would have been a voice of reason if it wasn’t for the fact that everything she did in AoA was mostly to manipulate him.
